Review: Fitglow Beauty Cloud Comfort Cream + Redness Rescue Cream

When considering the faults of my skin, I could easily turn out a tome. My tone isn’t perfectly even, I have some slight textural issues on my cheeks and forehead, my pores become congested easily, I have a few fine lines I could live without… but all in all, my skin isn’t awful, and there is really only one issue that prevents me from going without any sort of foundation/base, and that is redness. My redness in confined to the area directly around my nose, as is commonly lamented, traveling a couple of centimeters into my cheek territory. Though I often go without a full face of foundation, I do feel most comfortable with a touch of concealer in this area, or a lightly tinted moisturizer, which can help to mitigate the sometimes angry appearance of my skin.Fitglow CCC RRC

When I first happened upon the Redness Rescue Cream by Fitglow Beauty, I was intrigued by its green tint, which also made it stand out against all of the other redness-relieving skin creams on the market. I had, however, no prior experience with this brand, and there were few compelling reviews to be found online to convince me to buy it, so I held off, but it never did leave my mind.

Fitglow Redness Rescue Cream
Fitglow Redness Rescue Cream (RRC)

Fast forward to one morning early in February, when I saw via an Instagram ad that the subscription service Beauty Heroes was offering both the Redness Rescue Cream, as well as the Cloud Comfort Cream in their February box. The offer was so compelling that I sprung out of bed to retrieve my credit card, then promptly signed up for a 3-month subscription, though frankly, I had never heard of this service before that day. I received my February box the following business day, and have been smitten with the Fitglow line, as well as Beauty Heroes, ever since.

I first used the Cloud Comfort Cream as a night cream on the day of its arrival, however, I did find it was a bit light to be worn overnight, especially in the dry Arizona climate. However, as a day cream, it is perfect; it’s hydrating, but not greasy, and plays well with both sunscreen and foundation. The Redness Rescue Cream is equally well-paired with sunscreen and makeup, and because of its color correcting abilities, has really become the star of this pairing. While it does not offer much in terms of coverage, I do feel that it lessens the appearance of unwanted red tones, while simultaneously lending subtle hydration to the skin.

In sum: both the Cloud Comfort Cream and the Redness Rescue Cream from Fitglow Beauty are sublimely effective and a dream to use. Do consider ordering them through Beauty Heroes website, should you give them a shot, as they not only have an extraordinary selection of clean products, but offer stellar customer service to boot.

What sort of strategy do you employ to combat redness? I would be delighted to receive some product/technique recommendations!

Review: Tata Harper Illuminating Eye Creme

Eye cream is one of those products I am not entirely convinced is necessary. I realize that the skin of the orbital region is thinner and more fragile than that of the rest of the face, and is also one of the first areas to show signs of aging. But I have used a lot of eye creams over the years, some inexpensive, and some eye-wateringly pricy and chock-full of impossible sounding ingredients sourced from exotic regions of the world I wasn’t previously aware existed, and yet, none had ever wowed me with their performance.

Tata Harper Illuminating Eye Creme

When Tata Harper first entered my radar, I was intrigued by the ethos of the brand, and particularly drawn to the luxe glass packaging. There were several products I wanted to test out, but the reviews seemed a little too glowing to be true, so I repeatedly passed on the opportunity. That is, until I became aware of the existence of the Illuminating Eye Creme. Initially I thought that it simply contained brightening ingredients, something to counteract the dark circles so many people suffer from. I was not immediately aware that it actually contained mica, which provided a subtle shimmer and in turn allowed it to function simultaneously as a highlighter.

You see, I love shimmer. Absolutely love it. When someone describes a product as “too glittery”, or even “fit for an exotic dancer”, I am in. That’s how I ended up with a bottle of the Burt’s Bees Radiance Body Lotion (which I do love, by the way). A couple of days after I purchased my current automobile, my brother hopped in for a ride, and remarked that he had had his vehicle for over five years, and it was glitter-free. I had had my car for a mere 48 hours, and already, the door panels, steering wheel, shifter, and cup holders were sparkling. I can’t help it! I am addicted and I do not want help.

Swatch of the Illuminating Eye Creme

Several reviews I read on the Illuminating Eye Creme noted that it was too illuminating. TOO ILLUMINATING? Add to cart! What’s better is that it is also multitasking, in that it can be used around the eye area for brightness, but also on the high points of the face, to offer a subtle highlight. With my propensity for multitaskers and my undying love of sparkling products, I had a gut feeling that this was going to be a winner product for me. I was right.

From Tata Harper’s website:

“Complete age-defying eye treatment with a soft-focus luminescence using real diamond dust for a highlighting effect. Instantly illuminates the look of the eye area. Minimizes the appearance of crow’s feet and wrinkles. Reduces appearance of puffiness, dark shadows and fatigue.

Only the tiniest dot of product is needed to completely cover the under eye area, and enough product is generally left over to also swipe down the nose and over the cupid’s bow. I find that it is a bit too rich to be used on the lid itself, as it makes my eyeshadow crease, regardless of how much product I use, so I instead focus the application on the under eye and upper cheek bones. I disagree that it is too illuminating, as some have said– I find that on my very fair skin, it provides enough luminosity to make a difference, but remains completely natural and fresh looking.

In terms of its performance as a hydrator, I will say that it certainly does provide a good dose of moisture, but if it weren’t for the luminosity, I wouldn’t consider it a necessity, especially for the price. But since such a small amount does so much in terms of an overall glow, I am satisfied, and will repurchase when my current bottle runs out, albeit for a discounted price during the Sephora VIB sale.

In sum: if you are looking for a hydrating eye cream/highlighter with a pearly-white luster, give the Illuminating Eye Creme by Tata Harper a whirl. Several e-commerce sites, including the brand’s webpage, Sephora.com, and Nordstrom.com, also carry kits with trial/travel-sized products, which are an excellent way to introduce yourself to higher end brands without dropping too much cash for something you aren’t certain will work for you.

What are some of your favorite natural illuminating products? I’d love to discover some new favorites from fellow glow lovers!

Review: SunKissAlba Radiant Glow Face Oil by Derma E

DermaE Sunkissalba Radiant Glow Face OilWhile perusing YouTube for natural hair care videos several years back, I stumbled upon a lovely gal, best known by her web-handle, SunKissAlba. Her tips were solid, her skin glowing, and her personality nothing short of lovable, earning her a place at the top of my list of favorite YouTubers to virtually spend time with. Accordingly, when I learned that she was partnering with Derma E to create a multi-use oil, I was eager to see what special touches she would add, and delighted to be able to show her some support in a more tangible way.

Here is what Derma E’s site says about the Radiant Glow Face Oil by SunKissAlba:

“Shake well. For a radiant glow, massage 2-3 drops onto clean skin. Apply day and night or as desired.

Organic Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Organic Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Seed Oil *, Organic Hippophae Rhamnoides (Seabuckthorn) Fruit Oil*, Organic Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil*, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Natural Fragrance Oils.”

Right away, the ingredient lineup excited me; the blend of oils was exquisite, totally right for my skin, and the addition of a little shimmer (provided by the mica) had my heart fluttering. There is little that tickles my fancy more (in the cosmetic realm) than well-done shimmer. To look as though I have just emerged from a comfortable slumber, glimmering from crown to slipper like Titania, Queen of the fairies, is what I try to emulate daily, so naturally, products that shimmer appeal to me on a cellular level. And when a product that gleams can be applied to the face, body, and hair alike, all the while remaining natural in composition, it becomes simply indispensable to me.

Apart from the aforementioned shimmer, some shining stars in this formula are the pumpkin seed and sea buckthorn oils, both of which I love to use in their pure forms, for a number of reasons, as detailed below.

Pumpkin seed oil:

  • High in linoleic acid, which is an omega-6 essential fatty acid that helps dissolve congestion in the pores, making it an excellent choice for those with acneic or blemished skin
  • Contains vitamins A & C, both of which aid in the decongestion and brightening of the skin
  • Rich in vitamin E and zinc, which benefit the appearance of skin tone, and work to moisturize the scalp and keep it flake-free

Sea Buckthorn oil:

  • Rife with beta-carotene, which when applied topically, is able to convert to an active form vitamin A (retinol), which is an excellent anti-ager, and may help fade dark spots and melasma (perfect for helping to fade the remnants of blemishes!)
  • Assists in wound/burn healing
  • Contains vitamins C, which acts as an antioxidant and can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and unevenness in the skin tone

Sunkissalba Radiant Glow Oil Derma E

Over the last few weeks, I have used this oil primarily on my face, where it imparts subtle, but certainly detectable luminosity, as well as on my legs, to add an enviable luster.  It sinks in beautifully without leaving behind any stain-inducing residue, and has a lovely, very faint scent. Moreover, it acts as a perfect primer for makeup, allowing foundation/concealer to glide over top, leaving you with a dewy, but not at all greasy, canvas on which to build a complete look. It also possesses the ability to elevate no-makeup days, where you do not want to add any cosmetics to your face, but nevertheless seek to look radiant.

In sum: the light, and subtly shimmery SunKissAlba Radiant Glow Oil by Derma E is a must-have multitasker. Whether you’re after the aforementioned benefits its ingredients offer, or you just want to add a bit of subtle luminosity to your look, it is a noteworthy product deserving of a place in your beauty routine.
